Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society founded in 1914, seeks an executive director. With 311 chapters (which are called Circles) throughout the country, the society initiates approximately 8,000 new members a year chosen by their respective colleges and universities for their exceptional leadership and academic achievements. The Executive Director manages both the Society and the OΔK Foundation and has responsibilities for the fiscal well-being of the Society, programming, fundraising, and the direction of a staff of six professionals.  The Director reports to a Board of Directors and also works with a related but separate Foundation Board of Trustees.

Position Description

OΔK seeks an experienced manager familiar with higher education, the mission of honor societies, and leadership and leadership development among college students. This is the perfect opportunity for someone with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills interested in innovative programming and further developing an established but growing organization. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in staff management, innovative programming for college students, fundraising, and communications. An advanced degree is highly desirable.

Principal Duties of the Executive Director
  • Administer the day-to-day operations and the budget of the Society and the Foundation
  • Serve as spokesperson for OΔK and its mission of responsible, ethical leadership
  • Manage with the Board of Directors the governance of the Society
  • Guide the Society in the development and implementation of its strategic plans
  • Promote and administer current programming, including the biennial national Summit, the awards given for exemplary leadership and service to the Society, the national scholarships, the lecture series, and programming at the local level
  • Develop and introduce new programs
  • Oversee the communications, including the Web site, the magazine (The Circle), and regular contacts with officers at the local and national level
  • Implement policies for OΔK as directed by the Board of Directors
  • Directs the Foundation and has primary responsibility for fundraising

  • ability to balance attention to broad strategic goals with daily oversight of the Society’s activities
